(You can check out all this information on our T-Shirt Fundraiser page here)
After meeting with our 't-shirt guy' here in Katy (the one Eric uses for all his band needs), we knew God's hand was in this. T-shirt guy (we'll call him S) has an adopted daughter, his wife is adopted, and he's even attended our church from time to time! He's beating every quote we've received from online fundraising companies by HALF! Eric went and met with him and took our original design. He really liked it, but, because he's been in the t-shirt business for many many years, he had some suggestions. The house on the outside will be too boxy and and make the shirt stick out funny. So we came home and tweaked it and submitted the above design.
We are very pleased with it and hope you are too! He doesn't have to change anything, and thus we save even more design fees. However, like we've mentioned in the past, we are planning to do this adoption without going into debt, so we'd like pre-orders for the shirts. We'll be ordering in batches, and our first order will be due July 15th. This will give us time to get the shirts in before our garage sale on July 23rd. We need a minimum of 36 shirts for each order.
Friends have asked if we can get kids size shirts. Ours will be available in Youth M and L and Adult S, M, L, XL, and XXL (if you need an adult XS, he said order a youth L). We can't go smaller than that or the design on the adult shirts would like ridiculously small. He is offering us both Ash Grey and Light Pink colors, which is more than we hoped for! The shirts will be $20 each and if you are not in the Katy area, we will ship them to you!
A little about the design. We figure everyone knows why we chose the shape of Africa :). Inside of the shape of Africa are the words to Psalm 68:5-6a, "Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation. God settles the solitary in a home."
We liked this verse as it speaks to the character of God. He is the ultimate father of the fatherless. And He has plans for the orphans. We get to participate in His plan for the child that He has hand picked for us, and for that we are grateful.
One Love. One Home.
This saying just kind of came to us. We were thinking on quite a few scriptures, all surrounding God's love for us and our complete undeserving-ness (is that a word??) of it! That His is the ONE LOVE that we can cling to, through everything, that is pure and holy and Perfect! There is no human being on this earth that has perfect love. Here are some of the main scriptures we felt appropriate.
1 John 4:7-21 (God is Love)
7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. 10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us. 13 By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. 16 So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. 17 By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. 19 We love because he first loved us. 20 If anyone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. 21 And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother.
Philippians 2:1-2
So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, 2 complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.
Ephesians 1:5-10
In love 5 he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, 8 which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight 9 making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ 10 as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.
We are all the same here on this earth. All sinners, bought with a price, God's love lavished on us, even when we don't deserve it, called to bring glory to His name. Not our own. So we are responding to this call out of humble servant hood, as well as excitement. He has blessed us with friends, family, acquaintances and even strangers that have answered the call to help us care for the orphan, and we are beyond blessed! That is where One Home came from--it only takes one home to make a difference in the life of one, or more, children. We just have to answer the call and respond with obedience.
We praise God that you have chosen to help our journey, when we know there are so many needs and so many hurting right now. Thank you!!
