Micah is 11 months old!

Well, he was last Friday! :)  He is such a joyful, happy baby boy.  He is currently cruising around everything!  The ottoman, couches, pulling up on sisters bed while the girls try to hide from him :).  He will walk if we hold his hands, but wants to crawl everywhere.  He says mama, da da (super cute when Eric comes home from work.  Da Da Da), no (that's new yesterday from sister, thanks Cara), and lots of noises, yayayaya, nananana.  He signs milk and all done very well.  He's starting to sign eat and Cara is trying to teach him bird (her 2nd sign after milk).

And in true Misty fashion, I took him and the 2 girls to JCPenney to have his 11 month picture taken last Friday.  I really can't stand going on the weekend, so we made a last minute appointment, and it went great.  He had his picture taken with the same little brown bear that Cara had her 11 month picture taken with ;).  Here's her shot:

His I won't get until the end of this week, so I will post it as soon as I do.  However, here are a few of my favorite pictures of him since the end of last month, sorry there aren't many, for some reason I took VERY little pictures in the month of September....very unlike me!

Playing with sister at the big bounce house last week at playgroup.

All my kids LOVE to eat :)

Hey Mere--is that the smile and gun Clint won you over with?? :)

Sewing Night #1

Look what I made last night!!  :)

It turned out pretty cute for my first time.  It's a reversible kids apron, and you better believe once I make the matching chef's hat tonight, that it'll be going on my etsy shop.

I had so much fun.  I'm going to make one for Cara for Christmas, but I wanted to try it out first before I commited :)
And here are my 2 little models.  I've decided I want to shorten it a bit for her age (this would be great for probably 4-5 years +).

Thanks Mindy for letting me come over and sew for a couple of uninterrupted hours (besides watching the Office) :).  I had a great time!

Misty's Blessings: Etsy Store!

Well, I opened an etsy store!  I am slowly adding to it.  I hope for my store sewing to pick up more after Christmas, as I have LOTS of items I need to get sewn for gifts!  However, I have had time to add a few items to my store, and I'd love for you to take a look.  I'm not going to turn this into an etsy blog...I already made one of those!  Please go check out my etsy store here, and my new blog here.  I would love your feedback and ideas, and thanks again for checking it out!

Menu Plan Monday

Menu Plan Monday, hosted by OrgJunkie.com!

I'm super bummed because I planned out all my meals, went to the grocery store (I'm averaging under $40/week!!--last night was $37.99) and was all ready to do this post today.  However, sometime between last night and today, I have misplacled my list!!!  Oh well, I remember most of it, however I know tonight was supposed to be rice and beans, tortillas, etc, and I forgot to soak my beans overnight, so I will be making something else.  ;)

Monday: fruit/cereal, leftovers (creamy pesto rigatoni with chunky tomatoes), hamburgers with homemade buns
Tuesday:  muffins, PB&J, rice, beans, tortillas, cheese, salsa
Wednesday:  mufins, leftovers, dinner at church/salad
Thursday:  cereal and fruit, mac n cheese and broccoli, free chick-fil-a and a salad
Friday: biscuits, cheese, chicken & pasta, sandwiches (hubby at astros, sister visiting/sewing!)
Saturday:  ALL DAY trip to Corpus, snacks in car, probably eating out with in-laws
Sunday: cereal/fruit, lunch out with my friends I used to work with (kids/hubby eat leftovers), grilled chicken, steamed broccoli and green beans, rice

2 links I loved

Trying not to be on the computer much today, but I found these two links from people I follow on Twitter, and thought they were great reads to pass along:

Socialization and Homeschooling: by the Pioneer Woman (and Mrs. G).

Inspiration for paying 100% down on a house!!:  by Monesavingmom!

Have a great Thursday!

Oh, and just so you all know, my accountability partner and I are focusing on memorizing scripture currently, and here is our first verse, in case you want/need a new verse to memorize!

Ephesians 4:29  "Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear."

Raising Responsive Children

God is so faithful, and gives you exactly what you need, exactly when you need it.  I actually started the above bible study over a year ago.  I was attending a weekly meeting at church on Thursdays, and doing the homework during the week.  I only got through the first few weeks, and then I had Micah, and lengthy studies became non-existent for awhile.

I did Esther, by Beth Moore last spring, and also couldn't finish it (this time, just for lack of discipline), but completed it over the summer and was extremely blessed.  You can see how God spoke to me during a hard time here, while completing the study.

Anyways, after completing Esther, I took some time off bible studies and read through some books of the bible.  2 Corinthians, Titus, Jude, some Psalms to name a few.  I just love God's word, but I could feel myself getting out of the act of disciplined daily reading, so I picked this book up to complete (I hate unfinished projects!!).  Wow how He has blessed me in it!  I remember thinking it started a little slow last fall, because I want to learn about disciplining my children, and it began with chapters (not just a day or two) on the Ultimate Parent (God), the Model Son, the Marriage, Getting to know you, the Homefront, etc.  I learned a lot, but didn't actually get the bulk of what I needed, but I also didn't keep going.  Now, I've finished the homefront, No Greater Joy, and am now working through the Art of Godly Discipline, and I have been beyond blessed.  And He's not just speaking to me on disciplining my children, but also on being disciplined myself.  In how I use my words and my tongue, how I am supposed to only uplift, be gentle, restrained and honest.  Those of you who know me in real life know I have struggled with this.  It has gotten better with age, but it is still a daily battle.  Here are some verses I chewed on a lot today to hopefully uplift you:

Proverbs 15:1 A gentle answer turns away wrath; but a harsh word stirs up anger.

Proverbs 18:21 The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

Ephesians 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Ephesians 6:4 (NLT) Do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them.  Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.

It went onto teach how a rebuke based on God's Word is so effective (Hebrews 4:12-13), and talks of teaching scripture as a pre-emptive tool.  We have been dealing lately a lot with specifically blatant disobedience (I tell C not to do something, and then she says OK and does it anyway). I know part of it is age, and part of it is she is still in training as this book puts it.  "They're not going to 'get it' the first, second, or third times.  They will test.  They will forget.  As adults, we're the ones who must be consistent with repetitive training."

I can't wait to do tomorrow's study, disciplining with strength and dignity (as the Proverbs 31 woman does).

God, please continue your good work in me.  Help me to know what my children's specific and individual needs are and how to meet them through practicing your Word.  "Teach me to rebuke with discernment, kindness, and respect, to verbally correct them with strength and dignity.  Put a guard on the door of my lips, Lord, so that I honor You with its right and righteous use."

Not Me Monday!

Following tradition and participating in MckMama's Not Me Monday post-a-thon.

I certainly did not become too lazy this past week and use the underside of my shirt to wipe my son's nose.  And I also did not then post about said laziness on facebook, that would be dumb.

I also, obviously, did not not try to make a super cute header for my blog, only to get frustrated and give up when I can't figure out how to make it fit (and Jen, I looked for the code you told me to replace your code with, and I still can't find it!).

I most certainly did NOT stay up way late Friday night (girls night), Saturday night (watching a movie with my hubby and working on our long term budget/goals) and then STILL stay up way too late last night on the computer.  I have self-control and I do not need an automatic turn off to get me to bed at a decent time.

And I sure most certainly did not have to almost physically restrain myself from spanking some children at church on Wednesday night for WAM.  We had one crazy week with lots of criers, hitters and runners, and it was all I could do to put them in time out, tell them why, and walk away without spanking.  I have been praying for patience EVER since!
